Flawless by Sara Shepard
In the exclusive town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, where the sweetest smiles hide the darkest secrets, the story “Flawless” by Sara Shepard is the second book of the series “Pretty little liars” narrates the story of 5 best friends who used to be the most popular girls in the school until one day, their friendship vanished when the leader of the group, Allison, who knew the secrets of all the girls mysteriously disappeared and was never seen or heard of again. After the disappearance of Ali in the first book, the girls start to receive messages from an anonymous person who names himself –A, these messages threaten them with the secrets Spencer, Aria, Emily an Hanna are trying so hard to forget and force them to do whatever –A wants them to. In Emily’s case,-A has enough dirt on her to bury her alive, somehow, Emily starts to receive pictures of her with her “friend” Maya being more friendly that what two normal girlfriends should be, since Emily doesn’t have her sexuality well defined and she hasn’t made up her mind in terms of if she is sure that she has a preference for boys, -A constantly threatens to expose her to her friends, family and anyone that close to her. Will Emily take a choice before A has to do it for her? For Spencer and Aria, the secrets don’t only affect themselves but also their whole family, Spencer is tortured by A’s messages that threaten her with telling her sister that her fiancé Wren has been cheating on her with her own sister, spencer. Will spencer and Wren continue to cheat on Spence’s sister? Or will A get ahead of the game and expose them. For me however, Aria’s situation is the worst , have in mind that the messages she is receiving are forcing her to tell her mother that her father is cheating her after years and year of marriage with an ex student of him called Meredith. Aria tries to tell her during the whole book but she fears her little family may fall apart; will it be broke apart by A? Finally there is Hannah, who has an obsession with looking good and being popular, her new friendships and terrible bad habits result in making the girl literally sick. The girls are in a constant dilemma of whom may be in hold of the secrets that only Allison knew, now that they found Ally’s body, can it be Spencer’s jealous and competitive sister Melissa , Maya who wants Emily all for herself or Toby, they guy who vanished for no known reason right after Allison’s death?
Even though the series are just as good as the books, I would recommend the books rather that the series since it has a lot more detail which generates a lot of suspense and anxiety in the reader, what I love about this books is that you are never bored while you read them and the main conflict of the girls secrets being exposed and the constant dilemma of finding out who is A and how they know the secrets that their friend Allison had supposedly literally taken to grave with her. I would recommend this books for people who are patient because there are 8 books, and A’s identity is always questioned but revealed in the last books. I would also recommend it to people who love suspense and drama, because those are mostly the main themes presented in the story.
